Coming Soon: the Online Store

If we seem a little excited about the news in this post, that's because we are. We're about to roll out the largest upgrade in the history of Radium3. This is the culmination of years of planning and months of careful development. We wanted to give you a heads up so you know what's coming:

On June 8, 2011, we're adding powerful yet easy-to-use online store functionality to the Radium3 platform.

Envision the Possibilities

The new online store functionality makes it possible for anyone to easily sell products on their Radium3 website. Whether you have hundreds of products to sell or just a few, our store gives you all of the tools you need. And, because it will be seamlessly integrated into every Radium3 website, you can list products on any page of your site with just a few clicks.

Revolutionary Interface

There are no confusing dashboards to navigate. With Radium3's online store, you just browse your site as normal and drop the new "Product Listing" element into any region on any page with a click. One more click, and you'll be setting up your first product. Adding products to your website has never been so easy.

Robust Product Settings

Though extremely easy-to-use, the Radium3 online store offers powerful features. For each product, you can configure basic information, upload multiple images, create unlimited product variants with customizeable options, track product inventory, track weight for shipping, add product tags, and much more.

Seamless, Secure Shopping Cart and Checkout

The user experience for customers is managed by an intuitive, well-designed shopping cart and checkout process that's built into every site. SSL security is automatically ensured. Payment processing can be handled by PayPal, Google Checkout, or Authorize.net.

Store Admin for Backend Management

While products can be added and edited right on your web pages as mentioned above, we also provide a complete store administration interface for backend management, bulk updates, and fulfillment. Through the various management screens you can:

  • Get an overview of store activity
  • Fulfill, cancel, and refund orders
  • Manage customers
  • Export customer email addresses
  • Perform batch changes to products and listings
  • Configure store settings
  • And much more

No Additional Monthly Cost!

That's right! The new online store functionality will be added to all paid Radium3 websites at no additional monthly cost (free websites will have access to store functionality in test-mode only). This means that all existing paid websites on the Radium3 system will instantly be able to implement the store. 

The only cost for using the Radium3 online store is a 1% transaction fee (2% on the basic plan) in addition to any fees charged by the payment processor you choose, such as PayPal or Authorize.net.

Plan Limits

The only limitation on the store functionality is the number of product SKUs you can have in your website's store. The SKU limitation for each plan level will be:

  • Basic - 100 SKUs
  • Plus - 500 SKUs
  • Advanced - 2,500 SKUs
  • Pro - 10,000 SKUs
  • Premier - Unlimited SKUs

I have a couple of questions:
1.Will the shopping cart function be geared primarily for retail sales? or is there a section of functionality for wholesale sales as well? - alternative pricing for wholesale accounts, etc?
2. Is there a way to set up a commissioned sales person and track their sales to calculate monthly commissions due - automatically?
3. Will there be a way for wholesale customers to sign in and place re-orders?
4. Will this module be able to be integrated with my distribution/fulfillment/warehouse software?
I'm sure I will have more questions in the future. It sounds great, but will involve lots of work to covert over from my other shopping cart.
Finally, I think there should be ramped down pricing so that if someone is doing big volume, the cost doesn't skyrocket.

You could have a dedicated section of your website that wholesalers are required to log in to access and on those pages, they would be able to order products at your wholesale rates.

2) No, we won't have this functionality in our system.

4) We won't have any fulfillment or drop-shipping integration at launch but it is something we are looking into for the future.

SKU stands for "Stock Keeping Unit" and is a number or code used to identify each unique product or item for sale in a store.

A single product could have multiple variants and each variant would have its own SKU. So, the SKU limitation is essentially a limitation of the total number of product variants in your store.

Our transaction fees will be billed monthly, on your website's monthly billing date, for the previous month's transaction fees. It might be overkill to have users add something to a cart and checkout just to make a donation, plus they would have to select a donation "product" with a fixed price instead of just specifying their price. The built-in donation element is a simple way to accept donations through PayPal where the user can set their own amount.

Downloadable products will be coming soon. It's one of our top priorities following the launch and our best guess is that it should be available within a couple months following our launch on June 8th.
